In Loving Memory....

Of Pets Who Have Gone On Before Us…. The sound of four paws padding softly down the hall in the still of the night…. The look of excitement as the leash comes out for a walk.... The dance of pure glee as they finally see you walk through the door…. The inherent trust in two eyes as bright and deep as the starry night shining straight into your soul, knowing they count on you for their well being…even unto death. It is moments like these that never leave our minds. It is moments like these, along with many more special memories of love and trust that have moved us to feel more love and more compassion than we thought possible. With each special life of pure unconditional love, it is moments like these that live on.

Interesting how we sometimes still think they needed us, when all along it was us who really needed them. Vulnerability sets the stage for magic. And magic it was; was it not? Magic in how they came… each, in their own special way, with their own special personality adapted to our unique requirements, adapting themselves to whatever living situation we were in at the time, coming to share the special blessing of big wide open hearts just for us.

…just when we most needed it. Who can say they are not God’s angels?

Homey was one of our very first Society Dog Members. He was known and loved by so many of us and we will miss him very much.

Homey (1995-2007)

It was fate brought Homey and Doug together. Homey scored big time with a great guy to love and care for him. When I first met Doug and Homey, it was a Thursday evening Willow Glen walk. Doug carried Homey across the street and my first thought was "this guy really loves his dog enough to carry him across the street so he could hang with his furry pals". I know Homey is in doggy heaven telling everyone what a great life he had with Doug and Lesley. ~Lorna Handa

With wonderful memories of a dear and loving dog. You brought joy to our lives from the start.

Sweetie Pie (2000-2007)

In memory of Sweetie who led a happy life with us of fun and love to all she met. She loved her backyard bushes, walks, Society Dog functions, trips in the car and at two years old reuniting with twin sister who was the other "Book End" that made her short life complete.

Your Mom Paula and Furry Sister Candy Cane

Faithful Partner of Port Authority Police Officer David Lim Loving member of the Lim family who perished in the collapse of The World Trade Center on September 11, 2001

Sirius (--2001)

"He was very special," Officer Lim has been quoted as saying. "All dogs go home with us, so not only was he my partner, but he was also my pet and my friend." The bond between a K-9 and his master is special, and while David realizes the human tragedy will overshadow the death of his dog, he still misses Sirius. "We were very close; no matter where I went, he went. Whatever I asked him to do, he did. He never complained. Sometimes we'd be working for long hours, searching hundreds of cars or trucks, and he'd just look at me like, 'What do you want me to do now?' "

In memory of Shammie, my companion & friend.

Shammie (1996-1999)

Thanks for being their for me and especially for setting me up with that Alpha Dog! I couldn't have met her without you.

With lots of loving memories, Maddog & Terri

K2, when I found you & Freestyle @ the Portland SPCA, I knew you were waiting for me.

K2 (1990-2005)

You changed my life and made my house a home. You will live forever and say Hi to Grandpa & Grandma.

Bill, Christine, Avalanche, Bandit & especially Freestyle, our lives will never be the same.

My Sweetest Boy & Friend

Dakota (2001-2008)

Dakota was all a dog lover could wish for. Sweet, loyal, funny. My baby boy went too soon and he will be remembered forever.

I will miss the Snow

Snowy (2001-2008)

My first job was selling cars. In one of the few car deals I ever made, In my short career was with a dog breeder. Who said "If you give me a good deal, I will give you a dog."
As you can expect, my eyes lit up and I excepted the offer. A week later he came back to my office and said here you go.. It was a larger then usual Maltese with a sweet face. Looking back on it, Im still not sure if he was a puppy.
As I got to know snowy, I found he had a childlike personality. He liked to wear baby clothes and drink water out of cups instead of bowl's. He could do tricks, like sing, and dance.
For almost everynight that I had him he would curl up on my bed to fall asleep, and snore his way to dream land.
Unfortunately, my baby, got very sick, very quickly, in mid November 2008. One cold day he woke up and it was like he was drunk. He could not keep his head still nor properly walk. as the hrs progressed it increasingly got worst. The Vet thinks it was a sort of embelism. None of the less, he was suffering and I had to put him to sleep.
"Snowy, I will always miss you and Love you."
Love,
Sterling

Donna LaBarge's Wiley

Wiley (2000-2009)

From Wiley first picking me when I went to the adoption fair-all 6 pounds of her lovingly licking my face and falling quickly sleepily in my arms after I had filled out all the paperwork-Moments after leaving the fair, with her an official Wiley LaBarge did she start yapping, peeing and proceeded to get stuck in the car between the seat and the window-I knew it was going to be a fun ride.

Wiley loved to go shopping at Petsmart and ride in the cart up and down the aisles helping me pick out her favorite toys-Even when she, well, had so much fur she waddled at 50 pounds I was still expected to heave her into the shopping cart-and I did.

She loved people, her bed and bowl. Walks not so much-but was a trooper for some long Tahoe walks of which the below is my favorite of her and Doug after her first round of radiation treatment that put her cancer in remission and gave us 8 more months with her-including that walk on Rubicon trail with her mom and dad where Wiley surprised us all and climbed the boulders to the top with her daddy.

We don’t have children so you know how much this was my spoiled baby girl. Austrie misses her already-as do the cats. I want to thank all of you for being part of her life and no doubt she coaxed you into tossing her a biscuit or two or the whole box.

My loyal Bubba boy

Rommel (1995-2007)

A dog's only fault is that they don't live long enough.

Waay too soon

Benson (2000-2009)

Benson was the best. No, really. The worst I can say about him was he shed....all year long. No shedding "season" with a golden. He was my shadow. He was there always. Good times and bad. He alone got me through many rough patches. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. He loved nothing more than to show all who came to visit his squeaky duck. To all who knew him he was more human than canine. When my daughter was told he'd died and those with her at the time must have thought she was over-reacting. Her response was "you don't understand he was my brother". Bebo you are sooo missed. There is a nothing in my heart. Not a hole, just a nothing where you use to be. But I feel you with me always.

Forever Loved

Taz {The Angel Dog} (4/27/97-5)

A real Angel now...

On April 27, 1997, a beautiful angel was born. In August of that year, he picked me to be his Mom. From that day forward he was a part of me, part of my soul, part of my heart, my life. Known as Taz {The Angel Dog} to myself and anyone who knew him, he gave every bit of energy and love he had to others. He taught me how to be a human being, how to love again. He gave me so many gifts; there are too many to mention. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. Even the ones that thought he was a pain in the ass couldn't resist that little face of his and those big soulful eyes.

On May 13, 2010, after a year long battle with many problems, he told me he was ready. He was tired and he knew if he went and got his real angel wings that he could still watch over me and that I would be okay too. He was such a trooper during this past year. All the tests, poking and prodding, all the contraptions he was made to wear. He never complained. I didn't know if I would have the courage and strength to give him that last final gift of letting him go. But when I saw the look in his eyes that morning, I knew. He gave me the courage to do what needed to be done. In his last moments, he let out one of his big sighs and he smiled to let me know he was okay now. He could finally sleep and graduate to go get his magnificent final glorious wings.

I'm struggling with his loss. The pain is sometimes unbearable. But he is watching over me and giving me signs that I will be okay. He was all about life, enjoying life and experiencing every single moment to it's utter complete joy. I only hope that I can honor him and carry on the way that he taught me to live...fully and with a smile on my face.

Rest my sweet Angel. Run as fast as you can. Eat all the carrots you want. Tear up your toys now...no one's going to throw them away because you've mutilated them. Mitzi and Dancer, I'm sure, are joyful to have you with them. Give them each one of those special Taz kisses that you always saved just for me. You'll always be my Angel Dog...Forever. Love you Forever.

My Sweet Little Angel

Sabrina (2001-2010)

She wasn't just a dog, she was family. She was my sweet special angel. Sabrina will forever be in our hearts and always walk beside me.
Thank you Society Dog for all the great times and wonderful memories.
You are loved and are missed.
